TELLURIDE, COLORADO

While I do travel around the world to ski, I call Telluride, Colorado, home. If you’ve visited Telluride before, you probably know why; if you haven’t, I highly recommend that you come! The San Juan mountains are spectacular, the snow is cold and light, and the town and ski resort have something for everyone! Telluride is unique for skiers in all of Colorado – there is no other town that has a world-class ski resort, amazing access to backcountry skiing and a full-service heli ski operation Helitrax! Telluride is a fantastic place to come with a group of friends and/or family.

LODGING and DINING: There are a wide variety of hotel and condo lodging options in and around Telluride. There are an increasing number of options through services such as Airbnb and VRBO as well. All of these can be found on the internet; I don’t book lodging in Telluride, but if you have questions, just call or email me. Telluride has a great selection of restaurants, bars, spas, shopping and a variety of outdoor activities depending on the time of year… You and your family can do it all in Telluride!

PACKAGES: Contact me directly to discuss the various skiing options for your time in Telluride. I can create custom packages that include a mix of heli and backcountry tours. My primary focus is on custom private heli packages.

TRAVEL: Telluride is in the SW corner of Colorado. We have a small airport (TEX) with commercial and private flights, though the primary commercial airport is Montrose (MTJ), which is 1 ½ hrs away (regular shuttle services available). From Denver, Telluride is a 6-7hr drive.

SEASON: The season for heliskiing in Telluride is generally early January into early April, with the busiest part of the season generally being February and March. The ski area opens right around Thanksgiving and operates into early April. The backcountry touring season generally starts in December and continues into May.

BOOKING: The town of Telluride and Telluride Helitrax have gotten increasingly popular. This means prime lodging and heli ski days are booking out earlier and earlier every season. Call me to talk about the dates you are considering and I can help steer you in the right direction for booking!

TERRAIN AND SNOW QUALITY: The San Juan mountains offer some of the most majestic ski terrain I have ever been in. We have a lot of terrain to work with at Telluride Helitrax and we choose terrain each day based on a variety of factors. Snow quality in Telluride tends to be world class – we get light, dry powder, cold weather that keeps the snow primo, and plenty of bluebird skies for great flying conditions. For skiers and snowboarders, it doesn’t get much better than Telluride!

HELI / GUIDE STAFF: I work with a truly awesome team of guides and pilots at Telluride Helitrax. Everyone involved in our operation is very experienced in the mountains, and they take the prime directive of “safety first” very seriously. We only fly in A-Star B3s, which are the very best helicopters for small group heli skiing. Our team is a group of solid professionals, and together we focus on safety and delivering the best possible ski and side activity experiences for our guests!

SAFETY:  Safety is always my primary concern, regardless of location, and I’m very careful when it comes to choosing who I work with! At Helitrax, we have top notch pilots, the best helicopters, and a very experienced guide staff. Together, we make safety the priority all day every day. When injuries do occur, guides have basic medical equipment in their backpacks, with more advanced medical equipment on the helicopter. In the unlikely case of serious injury in the field, we stop everything and focus on getting the injured party to an appropriate medical facility.
